Our history

Founded in 1981 by Tom Mims, T. Mims Corp. started as a small entrepreneurial venture focused on local development projects. Over time, we expanded our reach and capabilities, becoming a trusted partner in various industries. Founder and President

Tom Mims

Tom is the Founder and President of T Mims Corp., a central Florida investment, real estate development, ranching, sand mining, wetland mitigation bank company and financial investing company, which owns and manages over 10,000 acres in central Florida. Tom graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and later obtained a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Florida Southern College. After graduating from the University of Florida, Tom began working for a Polk County CPA firm. Quickly becoming eager to pursue a career more creative and active than accounting, Tom left the accounting firm and formed T. Mims Corp. and The Mims Group, LLC at the age of 23. At the age of 24, Tom was elected to the Florida House of Representatives, where he served two terms before returning to the business world which has since remained his focus. Tom was appointed by President Biden to serve on the Presidential Advisory Committee on the Arts at the Kennedy Center.

In addition, Tom is a Trustee of the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center. He and his wife Paula are extensively involved in their community including the arts, public education, and maternal health equity. A longtime patron of the Polk Museum of Art at Florida Southern College, Florida House in Washington D.C., Volunteers in Service of the Elderly, League of Women Voters, Bonnet Springs Park, local music programs and many others.

Outside of the business environment, Tom enjoys snow skiing, mountain climbing, cycling, and most outdoor recreational activities. Tom has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), Iliniza Sur (Ecuador), Illimani, Condorini and Huayna Potosi (Bolivia) and Aconcagua (Argentina).

Patrick Mims

Patrick is Vice President of T. Mims Corp. and has been working for the company since 2018. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Business Administration with minors in Sustainability Studies and Entrepreneurship as well as his Master’s degree in International Business from the University of Florida. Patrick chose to do the majority of his master’s program abroad to gain a better understanding of the world and how it works. Summers during his undergraduate degree were spent working for Senator Bill Nelson on the Hill and interning for Florida House in Washington, DC. Patrick solidified his love for different cultures while studying abroad in Madrid, Spain during 2014. Patrick studied in Hong Kong and Oslo, Norway, while completing his master’s degree in 2017. During that same summer, he interned at a start-up in London called InkPact as a Growth Hacker, finding innovative ways to increase business productivity.

Patrick manages daily operations while advancing the long-term vision and mission of T. Mims Corp. Starting as a Project Manager, Patrick spent the majority of his time in the field working and learning about the different facets of the company while gradually increasing his responsibilities to Vice President.

Similar to Tom, Patrick loves exploring new places and living an active lifestyle (such as mountaineering). Family, friends and community, accompanied with his passion for work, are driving forces for him.

Giving Back

For years families have come together to share picnic blankets, listen to lively music and celebrate Independence Day with T. Mims Corp.’s Red, White, & Kaboom Firework Show and accompanying festival atmosphere. In 2009 the economic downturn found the event without a major sponsor and the city commission had no choice but to call the show off for lack of partnership funding. The day the event was canceled, Tom Mims called the City of Lakeland and told them to keep moving forward with the plans for the celebration. He and his wife Paula could not bear to let the festivities die, particularly at a time when so many needed free, fun outdoor activities. Tom and Paula, long supporters of community events, wanted to continue the tradition of families coming together to celebrate our nation’s history and also show support to our troops and their families. “We love our country and our community and wanted a time for families to come together and celebrate,” remembers Tom Mims.
